Slingshot Hip Hop
Finally saw this documentary after a few years of anticipating its completion. It screened at the Palestinian Film Festival in Toronto tonight. Sold out show. Incredible Incredible Incredible. If you get a chance, see this brilliant piece of work by this brilliant artist, Jackie Salloum.

You know, I am really pleased to see this. I came of age in the 80's in NYC/Harlem and Rap has come a LONG way from when I was a kid.
We could've never known that it would reach the rest of the world. It was just us kids from the ghetto expressing ourselves.
What a world. Glad to see the ladies doin' their thing as well.
Nice. I've been super busy and haven't had a chance to check in to your blog. I agree. It's great to see women doing their thing too. I bought a CD of Katibeh Khamseh when I was in Lebanon this summer. Have you heard of them? They are rappers from the camps in Lebanon.
I hope you are well.
jackie is a wonderful person, love her to pieces. this film is really amazing.
