Securing Our Writing -
Forum for Women and Trans Writers of Color

Ok. It seems there's a few of us who are interested in starting some kind of a cyberspace for sharing our written work for purposes of critical feedback and support.

I have created a blogspace called Securing Our Writing where we can start posting our work and having the collective offer critical feedback and support.

For now, I have created the following email account: securingourwriting@hotmail.com where those interested in posting their works-in-progress can send their documents to. As temporary moderator, I will regularly check this email to make sure your documents (and subsequent revisions) are posted on the blog.

We can also use this blogspace to post call-outs for submissions in anthologies, begin compiling a list of progressive publishers, writing workshops, etc. Again, all this info can be sent to the above mentioned email address.

I would like to stress the fact that this forum is a collective and space created solely for women and trans writers of color.

The purpose of this forum is to create a safe and supportive space where we can provide one another with the critical feedback and support needed to help strengthen and polish our pieces. Our ultimate goal is to secure our writing.

So let's do it!

Please let me know your comments and thoughts on all of this.

mala that's a good idea, but I don't know how to go about it...I'm still relatively new to the blogging world...

however, I do worry about the implications of some people "controlling" (for a lack of a better word) what gets viewed, etc.

it also doesn't really solve the "copyright" issue

then again, if we are posting our pieces, isn't that technically considered "publishing" - I mean, the proof of the piece being written by the original author is right there on the blog itself.

I'm going to look into this a little bit more...

but in the meanwhile, if folks feel comfortable posting to the blog then go ahead...until we sort this out.

hey--i'm at the end of the semester over here, and i'm absolutly emotionally and physically drained, so i'm not going to post much, but if you go over to my blog the very top entry has a link (i'm not just giving you the link cuz i'm on dial up and it's gonna take for fucking ever to go back and get the link, and i'm just too tired)--any way, that link will take you to a progressive closed forum board where only progressives are allowed to post (it was created to deal with the constant harrassement we've been getting lately) and then once you join the forum, you can then join a woman of color forum that is also private as well, i think only the main site administrator can see it and women who join. a place to start at least.
and even if we don't want to use that space, we can at least meet up and discuss things there so it'd be worth it to join regardless.
also, pq, i made it over to the other blog, and i'm already inspired and will be submitting something to the chicano journal!! :-)
thanks so much for all your hard ass work on that site. it's a beautiful site!!
ok. now. off to bed.

PQ,

does it have to be fiction? i have some non-fiction, non-autobiographical work that i'd love feedback on. it's too historical/sterile considering the subject matter

hi elle,
I was thinking fiction but I can't see why not with non-fiction and auto-biographical - I mean, it's all writing so i'd say it's all good.

This is a really interesting idea.
I thought at first that it was an academic-writing thing, but helping each other with our creative work sounds like it could be awfully fruitful.
